Electrical Distribution Networks Operation & Maintenance
    Ten Days - Amman
    Introduction
Distribution equipment plays an important role in the safe distribution of electrical power. The equipment needs to be operated in a safe manner securing continuity of supply. This requires the equipment to be designed, installed, commissioned, operated, and maintained in a satisfactory manner within a management system that is effective in meeting the reliability goals within budget targets.
This course focuses mainly on the operation and maintenance of distribution equipment with reference to auxiliary equipment necessary for its operation.
    Objectives
Delegates will gain a detailed appreciation of the following:
    • The need for maintenance
    • Management of maintenance
    • Management and implementation of safe systems of work
    • Co-ordination of maintenance activities
    • Switchgear maintenance
    • Transformer maintenance
    • Cable installation and rating
    • Condition monitoring using non intrusive technology
    • Routine inspections
    • Properties of insulating oils
    • Maintaining system safety
    • The need for accurate records and documentation
    Training Methodology
The course is designed to maximize delegate benefit from the outset. The goals of each participant are discussed to ensure their needs are fulfilled as far as possible. Questions are encouraged throughout particularly at the daily wrap up sessions. This provides opportunities for participants to discuss specific issues and if possible find appropriate solutions. Case studies are employed to highlight particular points and appropriate video material used to illustrate particular conditions.
Understanding system design and limitations is fundamental to ensuring adequate maintenance activities are undertaken. The course evolves from a basic review of system design to the maintenance activities required to ensure the system continues to meet its design criteria.
    Personal Impact
On successful completion of this course delegate will be able to understand:
    • The need for adequate maintenance of equipment
    • Methods of maintenance management
    • Implementation of safe systems of work
    • How to co-ordinate maintenance activities for best utilization of time and resources while ensuring safety is not compromised
    • Switchgear maintenance requirements and techniques
    • Transformer maintenance requirements and techniques
    • Cable installation and fault finding techniques
    • The need for routine inspections
    • Properties of insulating oils and the need for oil analysis
    • The use of non intrusive condition monitoring methods
    • The need to maintain system safety
    • Why accurate documentation and record keeping is essential
    Organizational Impact
The course will allow delegates to interact and gain shared experiences of others. Selected videos and case studies will be used to illustrate the material being discussed and emphasis will be given to ensure material is appropriate to the organizations being represented. Each delegate will leave with an awareness and understanding of the course objectives. Safe working practices will be stressed and risk reduction methods investigated.

    Competencies Emphasized
At the end of the course delegates will be aware of the need of maintenance balanced against equipment downtime and cost. Delegate will understand the scope of maintenance required on equipment maintained by their own personnel, and that by outside contractors. The delegates will understand the methods used to ensure risks associated with maintenance activities are minimized to acceptable levels.
